Chris began learning the electronic organ at the age of eight. His interest in theatre pipe organ was not fully realised until meeting and hearing legendary British organist Douglas Reeve on his only visit to Australia in March 1989.
Chris studied music through the Australian Guild of Music and Speech, and gained his Associate Diploma with Honours in 1992. He has been awarded the position of Co-Patron of the Electronic Music Club of South Australia.
In June 1993, he was acclaimed as winner of both the Senior Section and Overall Winner of the American Theatre Organ Society's Young Theatre Organist competition.
Chris is in regular demand for concerts around Australia and overseas, including New Zealand, United Kingdom and the USA. In mid 1999 he was featured in the American Theatre Organ Society's National Convention held in London, performing on the legendary Buddy Cole Wurlitzer. In September 2002, he returned to the USA for his sixth concert tour with performances in Rochester and Portland.
Back home in Adelaide Chris is a popular artist at the prestigious Adelaide Town Hall and Festival Theatre pipe organs, performing regularly at the Lord Mayors Christmas Concert, and to over 1500 patrons at the popular Morning Melodies concerts.
At a Chris McPhee concert, audiences are treated to a mix of musical genres, from Opera to Broadway, always with a focus on the toe tapping tunes of yesteryear. Whilst a solo artist of renown, Chris has had the privilege to perform with some of Australia's top entertainers, including Tony Fenelon, Rosemary Boyle, Tasso Bouyessis, Ryan Heggie, JC Jazz, Brett's New Internationals (Auckland), The Bay Big Band and Adelaide Harmony Choir, to name just a few.
Chris' music has been featured on radio programs across the globe, including ABC's popular 'Classic Drive' program and the long running BBC broadcast, The Organist Entertains'. Recorded on the Capri Theatre organ Adelaide, Chris' latest CD release celebrates 20 years of theatre organ performance. Equally at home on both theatre pipe organ or electronic organ, Chris is a proud owner of a Hammond C3.
Looking ahead to the future, Chris looks forward to introducing the organ to a new generation. A challenge, which he strongly believes is reliant on new marketing concepts whilst still preserving the performance traditions of this unique art form.
Chris, together with his wife Katrina, has just launched www.symphonicwallpaper.com.au Following his passion for music, this online retail store specialises in rare and unique compact discs, particularly light classics, nostalgia and soundtracks.
Carolyn began harp lessons at age 12 with Lydia Shaxson in Adelaide, then in later years with Huw Jones, in Melbourne.
Carolyn's first professional gig was as harpist in the Johnny Mathis concert, Adelaide, in 1981, at 17! After completing her music studies, Carolyn began playing 2nd harp with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, a position she has held ever since. Around this time Carolyn did a summer stint with the Australian Pops Orchestra after touring Australia as a soloist with the Australian Youth Orchestra. She then did guest stints with the Canberra Symphony and Tasmanian Symphony Orchestras. She toured with the Australian Opera to Tokyo, Japan in 1988 as one of four harpists in the opera AIDA.
At the beginning of 1990 Carolyn's life took on a different direction when she sailed around the world for nearly three months as Harpist on the luxurious cruise ship M/S ROYAL VIKING SUN. She met songwriters Man/in Hamlisch and Sammy Cahn and also her future husband Tore Johansson, a Norwegian. Carolyn then spent the next two years travelling the world!
After marrying Tore she moved to Norway for almost three years. During this time Carolyn played freelance gigs as well as casual work with the Norwegian Broadcasting Orchestra and the Trondheim Symphony Orchestra, even playing in a television special for the Winter Olympic Games, hosted in Lillehammer that year. Carolyn and Tore later moved their young family back to Adelaide where Carolyn resumed playing with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, as well as at weddings and many private functions.
Then came concerts such as - the Electric Light Orchestra, a Tim Rice Tribute concert with Kate Cebrano, INXS, David Essex and Bachelor Girl, and an Olivia Newton John concert. In 1996 Carolyn played a private performance for Michael Jackson, who loved Carolyn's rendition of Heal The World!
Carolyn had to don some BLING and lots of glamour as harpist in a Kanye West concert in March 2006. Playing hip hop on the harp was a new experience!!!
Mathew Loeser
To think it all began with a gift of a toy keyboard from Mathew's beloved Grandma! Born and raised in Victor Harbor, South Australia, his studies began on both electronic and theatre organs at the age of 9, under the instruction of local teacher Pat Telford. Talent and an eager ambition combined to lead him to his first concert appearance at age 10. The young boy subsequently won numerous awards and captured the hearts of many.
With the help and encouragement of his second teacher and dear friend, Helen Blakebrough, in 1999 at age 14, Mathew won the Junior Theatre Organist Category of the ROTOSA Youth Music Scholarships after coming runner up in 1997 and 1998. His popularity soon led to appearances at the Theatre Organ Society of Australia's National Easter Conventions held in Adelaide in 1998, in Sydney in 2000 and again in Adelaide in 2003. He also played regularly for Theatre Organ Society club nights and concerts at Adelaide's Capri Theatre and the Electronic Organ Club of South Australia.
In August 2001 at the age of 16, Mathew won the Junior Theatre Organ Section of the American Theatre Organ Society's Young Theatre Organist Competition and, as a result, travelled to Indianapolis in the USA to perform at their annual convention.
Upon his return from the States, Mathew added another string to his bow. His next concert appearances showed greater diversity in the realm of piano and vocal solos. Mathew's new-found singing voice prompted interest by various entertainment personalities, and after much hard work, Mathew officially launched his professional singing career in two sell-out concerts in Victor Harbor, South Australia, in November 2003 with the help of veteran entertainer/retired opera singer Bev Shean.
Since 2003, Mathew has travelled nationally, continually meeting other entertainers and producers, furthering his singing ability and making it the main focus of his performing career. He is pleased to bring with him a new CD, recorded this year, titled Timeless', featuring a collection of nostalgic favourites. The self-confessed Liberace enthusiast currently resides in Sydney, but plans to expand his performing career both nationally and internationally, gaining exposure and experience in the entertainment industry. But most importantly, all the while, he will strive to do what he enjoys most: making people smile! |
